Tape Echo

The original echo effect was done with big tape machines and still many guitarists use those to get a very speical tape echo sound.

But today many pedaly create that sound in a very small form factor. Often it is called “tape echo” also to reference to those roots while more modern approaches are calles “tape delay”.
