The Electro-Harmonix Soul Food is a compact overdrive and distortion effects pedal that is designed to deliver a wide range of tonal options in a compact and affordable package. The pedal is based on the classic “Klon Centaur” overdrive circuit and features a simple three-knob layout that allows the user to shape the sound of the pedal with ease.
It features a Volume knob that controls the overall volume of the effect, a Drive knob that controls the amount of overdrive or distortion applied to the signal, and a Tone knob that adjusts the EQ of the pedal. The pedal also features a three-position toggle switch that allows the user to select between different clipping options, allowing for a wider range of tonal options.

My absolute favorite low-gain overdrive.
I use it “always-on” in front of a completely clean amp to give it some character (and highs if needed).
Never tested a higher-end Klon-variant and I also not prefer it as a classic overdrive pedal. But in day-to-day usage it clearly wins for me against everything else.
