Phaser
The phaser is a delay-time based effect that is used to modulate a guitar or bass signal. It is used to create a sweeping, whooshing sound by applying a phase shift to the signal from the guitar. The phase shift creates a series of peaks and troughs in the frequency spectrum of the signal, which results in a swirling, sweeping sound. Phaser pedals are often used to add texture and movement to a guitar sound, and they are commonly used in genres like rock, funk, and pop. Some famous examples of phaser pedal use include Eddie Van Halen‘s guitar solo in “Eruption” and Dave Grohl‘s guitar riff in the Foo Fighters song “The Pretender.”
