Phaser
The phaser is a delay-time based effect that is used to modulate a guitar or bass signal. It is used to create a sweeping, whooshing sound by applying a phase shift to the signal from the guitar. The phase shift creates a series of peaks and troughs in the frequency spectrum of the signal, which results in a swirling, sweeping sound. Some famous examples of phaser pedal use include Eddie Van Halen‘s guitar solo in “Eruption” and Dave Grohl‘s guitar riff in the Foo Fighters song “The Pretender.”
