Noise Reduction
The terms “noise suppression” and “noise reduction” are often used interchangeably, but there can be subtle differences between the two.
Generally, “noise suppression” refers to a process of actively removing or suppressing unwanted noise in a signal. This can be done through various methods such as filtering, gating, or dynamic range compression. Noise suppression is often used in live sound situations, where there may be high levels of ambient noise or interference, and in studio recording situations where noise may be introduced by various equipment or the recording environment.
On the other hand, “noise reduction” generally refers to a process of removing or reducing unwanted noise from a signal. This can be done with a noise gate which cuts of the signal as soon as it falls under a set level or with general preventive methods.
