Noisegate
A noise gate is a device that is used to reduce or eliminate unwanted background noise from a signal. Noise gates are commonly used in audio recording and live sound reinforcement applications to remove background noise from microphones and other sources.
Noise gates work by attenuating the input signal below a specified threshold level. When the input signal falls below the threshold, the noise gate reduces the level of the signal, effectively “gating” off the noise. When the input signal rises above the threshold, the noise gate allows the signal to pass through at its full level.
Noise gates typically feature controls for setting the threshold level, attack time, and release time, which allow the user to shape the behavior of the gate to match the characteristics of the input signal and the desired effect.
